Home Town: Erin and Ben's Country House

Main Post:

Did anyone watch this, and what did you think? I just loved what they did with the house; I live in envy! Their little girls are so incredibly fortunate to have them as parents and to have such a beautiful place to retreat to. I just love Erin's designs, so warm and homey. And the two of them couldn't be any sweeter.

Top Comment: I loved what they did with the house. It was not gaudy and overdone. It was some basic renovations stuff. No walls were demolished or moved. They moved two doors if I recall. It was classy.

Home Town Takeover

I know this is not a popular opinion but I really need to say it after watching the last episode.... while I admire and applaud the premise of the show and their very noble effort to help revitalize small towns in the ways they know how, the show and the dialogue among townsfolks and the various guest hosts and the hosts themselves, is very repetitive and.....dare I say, preachy? I am sad to see the efforts ending but I really cannot take all the same things they say anymore (how important it is they are doing this, how this is going to help the town, hour much it means to the town, how this is going to inspire other people, how now everyone will be so committed, etc). Not that those are not true, but EVERY SINGLE DIALOGUE is that! I just.....can't.....

Ugh, I don't want to be a downer because it's definitely a cool thing to do and a great series. Also with people moving during the pandemic we'll see a lot of smaller downtowns getting 'revitalized'.

But like when was this filmed? The whole time I'm watching it I was thinking uhh doesn't the pandemic exist here, at least w/ the background characters and extras? And did the whole contest selection give anyone Amazon HQ2 vibes?

Home Town Takeover

One of the things I like about Home Town is the genuine realness of Ben and Erin. Even if I’m wrong and they’re faking it, they do that well. This Takeover thing has none of that chemistry. It seems very rote and scripted, overplanned, repetitive, and frankly it’s a series of pet projects that don’t even always make much sense. (If that woman’s boutique is a failing business, no decorative facelift is going to fix it, for example). So..... meh. I wanted to like it 😑

Top Comment: I really like it. I have cried multiple times and am NOT a crier. There is something so wonderful at its core about what they are doing. Very into it.

Getting bored of this show. I don’t like how they don’t pay attention to detail. They’re painting over dirty surfaces, no fixing driveways, leaving rusted fences, no power washing, etc. I know they try to stay in budget but those little things bother me

Top Comment: I love the show. But it is funny what we all pick out as our things that we notice. I do appreciate they want to stay in budget but I’m always amazed when they’re like will keep these cabinets and just get new doors. I live in a house from 1950. And have not deep cabinets at all. They’re not in bad shape you just can’t like store anything in them because they’re not deep and have fixed shelves. And so I just imagine about if I was redoing my kitchen with then, she probably say let’s just change the doors on the cabinets and I’d be like no!!!! I think some of the stuff that you’re saying like fences, the owner has some sort of saying. So I bet it doesn’t bother the owner otherwise they would’ve told them that they want that included in the budget. I think The owners definitely decide where they want the money to go

Hometown's Ben and Erin Napier have no background in construction/design. So how did the premise of a show come about?

Main Post:

I read up on their background, and before the show started she designed stationary and he worked for a church; his hobby was wood working. Erin says that she was discovered on Instagram by an HGTV exec. But prior to the show they had never renovated a home before. So my question is... how did they jump from designing stationery to getting an offer to renovate homes on a huge TV network? That's a big leap.

Top Comment: Wait, they don’t have ANY experience? Damn.
